39 Dollar Blade Putter (used)

There are hundreds of putter designs available to golfers. Some professionals like Phil Mickleson prefer short putters and some like Fred Couples prefer belly putters. Last week PGA professional Jim Furyk felt uncomfortable standing over his putter that had previously won him over 10 million dollars on tour. He decided to stop by his local golf shop and see what they had to offer. Keep in mind that this is a guy that could dial up any golf club maker and have them design one for him within hours. He checked-out the new putters and nothing got his attention. Then he walked passed the used club section and there it was, a blade putter, probably one that looked like the first putter his own father placed in his hands as a youngster. He picked it up, drained some putts and fell in love with it. This week happens to be the Fed Ex Cup Championship where the winner will take home 10 million dollars. Guess who's in first place after three rounds? You guessed it, Jim Furyk and his $39 used YES Blade putter.

This is my best find and idea ever! Well for now anyhow. The Joule Hotel on Main Street Downtown Dallas is just incredible. It's a place to take your sweetheart and not leave the property until check out time. The cool wine bar and the heated roof top pool that is suspended beyond the building will keep you occupied. I suggest leaving the kids at home and getting reacquainted with your sweetie. Yup, the perfect Father's Day gift!

My first Walkman was a cassette player and my second one even had a radio with cassette. Last week my sister-in-law posted that her and her hubby were going to their first Zumba class. I was familiar with it only because my niece does it but I never considered it myself. Krista on the other hand has got some moves. When we started dating we used to go dancing and one of our favorites has always been a good Cumbia. She once asked me what the count was? There's no need to count, just dance! Obviously, I am not a dancer. While hanging around the house on Saturday morning I suggested we buy a Zumba CD and try it together. This morning I discovered that Zumba has been around since the mid 90's. Today it's an international phenomenon and still controlled by the original founders which is cool. Sometime this week we will push the furniture to the side and give Zumba a try. I know it will bring some good laughs and maybe even help us get into better shape. Time to go look for my old platform shoes.

Easier Funner Golf!

Yesterday I spent a couple of hours at the golf course with my son. I usually just drop him off and pick him up later in the day. I even took my clubs, hit some balls, and practiced putting and chipping. During my breaks I would check out the guys/gals on the range. I've known this all along but I realized once again how difficult a game it really is, especially if you're older and just beginning. Sometimes it can be flat out frustrating. The other thing I noticed is what's in people's bags and most everyone has what the golf pro has in his bag. A driver, 2 woods, Sand Wedge, Pitching Wedge, 9 thru 3 iron and putter. When was the last time you flushed a 3 iron from 200 yards onto the green? I'm thinking NEVER. It's like hitting a butter knife. Above are some clubs you should consider if your handicap is 10 or higher. On the left is a chipper that has a sole on the bottom which keeps the club from getting stuck causing the dreaded "chunk". My girls usually chip with the 5 wood but i'm buying one or should I say 2 of these soon. Back to that 200 yard shot! The club on the right is an Adams Hybrid iron and it'll be the funnest club in your bag, allowing you to hit the longer shots like never before all while lowering your scores. Now get out and play!

This is the trampoline that allows two opponents to play Spaceball, a game invented in the early 1960s by trampoline pioneer George Nissen. Nikon is shaking up the Digital camera world today by introducing it's new D3000. It comes equiped with everything you could ask for unless you're out shooting for Sports Illustrated or National Geographic. The new D3000 even includes a "guide" mode to help you with adjustments and settings and you can edit your pics right there on the camera if you're in a rush otherwise I recommend waiting until you can load them on your computer and edit them there. The D3000 camera kit retails for $600.

Kodak gets it right with their new Zi8. My favorite feature is the Mic jack and 5 mp camera and full 1080p video capture. Maybe the coolest thing i've seen in a long time. The Bose Sound Link works via USB which plugs into your computer then streams your favorite tunes from Pandora, i Tunes etc to this awesome looking speaker device. It even comes with a remote control so you can pause or skip through to the next song. We'll have to wait until August to get one though well worth the wait.

Talking on Tour

I must have read this book 20 times to my oldest son while he was an infant. Now I am reading it to my 8 month old and it never gets old. The book is a gathering of some of golfs greatest stories from it's greatest players put together in short form making it super easy to read. If you or someone you know enjoys golf or is becoming interested like my 15 year old niece is, it's a MUST BUY!

The "I'm not on Tour" Bike

This week Lance Armstrong began his return to the Tour de France. We will all be inspired by his determination to win and once again we'll find that channel on our TV's that we haven't viewed since his last Tour. I have to think that his return will also effect bicycle sales. Most of us have no business on a Tour type bike and if we buy one it will most likely collect dust after the Tour is complete. What we need is a sleek bike that you can feel comfortable getting on at any time without the lock-in shoes and yellow jersey. Cook it Low and Slow

As a kid growing up in West Texas my dad would take us out and we'd gather mesquite firewood from the pasture, throw it in the back of the pickup and then he'd use it to cook on his 24 inch all iron pit. It was an all day process but he had the patience. As a young adult I had my own iron pit made, it was SO heavy it took two of us to carry it up to my apartment. As i grew older I dreamed of one of those stainless steel gas grills and eventually bought a few of them but I can't stand cooking on them as the temp is too hard to control and the slightest drip of fat can turn your grill into a fire pit. This weekend I'm digging out my smoker and going to cook some great meats all weekend. This "Smokey Mountain" cooker by Weber looks pretty sweet and seeing how it's Fourth of July weekend, I can't think of a better time to grill.

Gotta Love Tin Cup!

There are a few movies that I'd call favorites and Tin Cup is number two. My favorite scene is the discussion regarding the EXACT location of The Waffle House. Is it in Midland, Texas or Odessa, Texas? For those of you that don't know, Cocktail Match is located in Midland, Texas! This Father's Day weekend is a great time to buy a copy of Tin Cup because it's based on the U.S. Open. Krista will have to sit thru this movie with me once again this weekend and every Father's Day weekend until Austin is old enough to watch. My guess is that the Waffle House is in Odessa?

Red Man Bag Rocks

Almost ten years ago Krista took me to the Tumi outlet in Napa. I bought myself three bags. Two backpacks and one brief case. I still carry all three and they're like new. What I like about this Red Messenger Bag is first of all that it's red which makes it easy for my kids to spot me. Second of all I like the look and fabric plus it's perfect for the Net Book or diapers!

My Dad used to wear Timex watches until they either just gave out or the band broke, then he'd go and buy a new one. I always watched him try and put the pins back into the band hoping it would last just one more day. I never saw myself wearing a Timex and then one day I saw the Ironman and had to have it. I've probably owned 10 of them just like my Dad. I like this one in particular because it comes with a heart rate monitor just in case you decide to excercise. In the meantime you'll keep people guessing. Hhmmm, he's wearing an Ironman, he must work out!

Is that a Movie in your HAND?

Many Dad's to this date don't realize what an I-Pod touch can do. Last weeks conversion to Digital TV proves my point as the FCC took over 300,000 calls from people wondering what the hell had happened to their "Rabbit Ears" as their signal vanished before their very eyes. This little gadget will let you load up all Dad's oldies but goodies along with his favorite movie. Might I suggest Tin Cup? After all, it is U.S. Open weekend.

Dad needs THESE Levi's

As we grow older we become so predictable that it's flat out funny. My Dad wore the exact same clothing combination everyday, he was like a robot. Part of it is that as Father's we'd rather give our kids what they need rather than spend on ourselves. If your Father is dead set on wearing Levi's jeans, buy him a pair of these Capital E "Harrison" jeans. He might be a bit resistant at first but after you tell him how good he looks and he feels how comfy they are, watch out, he may reach for the untucked button down next!

Take Scotty to the Green

On the golf course it really does matter what you bring and the two most important items are the Driver and the Putter. The average golfer uses his or her putter a minimum of 36 times per round so in my opinion, it is THE MOST IMPORTANT club. Some things never grow old like this Scotty Cameron Studio Putter by Titleist. Nike couldn't offer Tiger Woods enough money to get rid of his Scotty. I bought my son one when he was 6 yrs old and people thought i was nuts but he'll play with it for as long as he wishes. There are hundreds of different designs and styles of putters but if you want to give your Dad or Hubby something that will last a lifetime, go with Scotty.

Getting cuffed can be a good thing!

I probably own over 40 pair of cuff links. I began wearing these cool accessories in the early 90's. On one trip to New York City I spotted a pair of gold Bull and Bear cuff links but couldn't afford to buy them on that particular day. A couple years later I was back in the City and happend to be a day early before meetings began so I grabbed a cab and drove to the Financial District to see if that beautiful set of cuffs was still on the shelf. I got lucky, (I guess) and bought them. I think the cab ride cost more than the cuffs. A couple more years went bye and Krista bought me these simple and classic cuff links and I never wore anything else again. I chose not to engrave mine as seen here. These cuffs are easy to put on and take off which is key to a great pair of cuffs. This Father's Day I'll focus on simple and classic things men like and can enjoy for years to come.

Apple iPod Shuffle

Apple just made the iPod a bit smaller. The latest iPod shuffle comes in as one of the smallest MP3 players available. The tiny player sports a 4GB capacity which means you can load 1000 songs or so onto it. In order to make the player small, the playback controls are now located on the headphone wire which is causing a small Internet uproar. You see, you must use either the bundled earbuds or the select few that were just announced today with the same controller built-into the wire. Smart by Apple? Maybe, but the company isn't perfect.

Mac Mini

Apple just updated its least expensive desktop line with better specs while maintaining the same price; got to love that. The updates include a faster Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, more hard drive storage space, and graphics via NVIDIA GeForce. The entry level model starts at $599, while the $799 price point holds the larger hard drive and more memory option. Just like previous versions, these Macs do not include a keyboard, mouse or screen; you need to bring your own to the party.

The phone obviously cost Motorola a good amount of coin to develop and the $2,000 price tag proves it.

HP Mini 1000 Netbook

The latest craze in the ever-changing world of computers is sub-notebooks, dubbed netbooks. These mini laptops generally do not feature any DVD or CD drive, rather opting for longer batter life and portability. HP’s offering presents a polished option rather than the otherwise standard fare from other PC manufacturers HP has two different versions of the Mini-Note: one loaded with a full fledge Windows XP install and the other with a custom-built Linux operating system. Both however sport the same 8.9 diagonal screen, 92% full keyboard, WiFi, Bluetooth, 60GB HDD or 16GB solid state drive, and 1.27 kg weight. Prices start at $379 for the Linux option and $399 for the Windows flavor. If a full laptop is more computer than you need, these might fit the job, and wallet, better.

The atlas spans the globe and took 100 photographers, cartographers, geographers, and oceanographers eight years to complete the heirloom-quality book. Within are 154 maps and 800 photographs, four gigantic gatefolds and crystal clear satellite images. The 70 lbs book will be treasured far past the recipients lifetime.
